A Wine Trail - Canal Country-East Central Ohio     The Ohio and Erie Canal was built in the early part of the 19th century and completed the final water link, via the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, between the Great Lakes and the Gulf of Mexico. Today remnants of the Canal are preserved in an area rich in history, beautiful scenery, unique cultures, natural resources and leisure activity options. Dotted throughout the region are some of Ohio’s most charming wineries.
In the 1800’s the Ohio and Erie Canal helped open the state to settlement, then led the way to the emergence of significant agricultural and industrial developments that are influencing activities through to the present day. Along the Canal path, visitors can explore the geological elements left behind by ancient glaciers. There are remnants of Native American cultures, pioneer settlements and early railroads. The southern terminus Corridor (designated as a National Heritage Corridor and encompassing the Cuyahoga Valley Park) leads to the very popular Amish Country and its quaint culture. They can explore a Towpath Trail that runs through the heart of the Corridor. Within the Corridor, or just a short drive away are several fine boutique wineries.
We invite you to explore all of the historical, recreational and cultural delights of the region as you travel the Canal Country Wine Trail.
Please scroll to the bottom of the page to find accomodations and attractions on the Canal Country Wine Trail.

At Maize Valley Winery, "We Make Great Wine... FUN!" Maize Valley is
located three miles east of Hartville Ohio on St. RT. 619. That puts us
just twenty minutes from either Akron or Canton and just an hour from the
Cleveland area.
Our family at Maize Valley blends the country charm of our award winning
farm market with the excitement of finding that special taste captured in a
bottle. We offer a range of wines from our sweeter Niagara style to a fine
dryer Cabernet Sauvignon. And if you need some help finding one you like we
can help out too. Farm raised fruits such as Strawberry, Raspberry and more
fine their way onto our market's shelves and into our wine bottles.
While in our beautifully restored 150 year old barn you can sample then
choose from over 80 different types of meats and cheeses offered in our
deli, plus a host of other fine foods from our homegrown produce to pastry
and baked goods.
We build memories to last a lifetime with family and friends. Depending on
the season you may take a 100 acre wagon ride, watch balloons lift off, see
your kids pet some of our animals, throw a bocce ball, navigate a corn maze,
or just sit and relax on our patio. You can enjoy our wines by the glass or
bottle and when you find the ones you like, take some home to enjoy till
your next visit!
We are more than a winery; we are a destination for the things you want,
need, and love. Our family has farmed in the area since the 1800's and we
would like to share it with you, your loved ones and friends. Growing
grapes and fruits, then making fine wine is just another way for us to do
that.
Please check out our website for more details about our special events and
festivals coming up like our "Days of Wine and Roses". During May in our
greenhouse we will offer great rose tree specials and more.
